Sugar-Free Confusion

Sugar has gotten a bad wrap recently. With constant information being thrown around social media and influencers following certain diets, people have started to demonize sugar. But, people seem to be confusing sugar-free with REFINED sugar-free. Refined sugar refers such ingredients as cane sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, or processed beet sugar that cause a rapid and significant increases in blood sugar and inflammation in the body. However, the “sugar” that comes from fruit and raw honey is called fructose and/or glucose. These are digested with highly absorbable enzymes that efficiently cleanse the bloodstream. It causes the opposite effect on the body that refined sugar does by creating an inhospitable environment for pathogens and providing nourishment for the liver. Raw honey and fruit are highly anti-inflammatory and have some of the highest antioxidants in the world. Some important facts to note are that natural sugars are not stored as fat like refined-sugars, does not cause a spike and crash of blood sugar and energy, and lastly, the glucose/fructose from fruit and raw honey does not aggravate health conditions. In fact, they can heal health conditions!

Raw honey has such powerful healing abilities that kill pathogens; research has also found that raw honey contains b12 co-enzymes that are incredible for DNA repair, nervous system health and are a secret weapon against fighting illness and disease. Raw honey is extremely high in minerals such as calcium, potassium, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, chromium, molybdenum, and manganese (Williams, 2019). In addition, raw honey contains water and trace vitamins and minerals that refined-sugar does not. According to research from scientists at NCBI, raw honey has a far less impact on blood sugar levels than refined-sugar for Type 1 and 2 diabetic subjects. They also found that in moderation, raw honey can be part of a very healthy diet for diabetics because raw honey is 82% sugar by weight, whereas refined-sugar is 99.9% by weight.
