Food As Medicine:

Daphne Javitch

When it comes to wellness, Daphne believes that small, consistent actions create the biggest impact. A New Yorker living in LA with her husband and two children, she blends real life with healthy routines in a way that feels both aspirational and doable. Here, she shares a glimpse into her daily rhythms, pantry staples, and the simple rituals that keep her grounded.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I'm a New Yorker living in LA with my husband and our two children. And I'm a health coach with a private practice, group programs, and an online membership platform. My specialty is helping busy people build healing routines that are doable, not dreadful! I got into this work through my own journey with endometriosis that began when I was finally diagnosed at 34 (11 years ago!).

What does a typical day of meals, movement, and routine look like for you?

I begin everyday with a 'no-phone zone' which means I don't touch my phone until my children leave for school. That's also when I savor an espresso with homemade almond milk and a splash of half and half. I aim for 1L of water by noon and I typically make a delicious green juice with veggies, leaves, fruit and herbs early in the day as well. I like to exercise before I go into client sessions so I'll either go for a quick run or if I have more time, I'll climb neighborhood stairs wearing a weighted vest.

I love lunch! It's my alone time- I make a massive salad paired with root veggies or similar. We have family dinner and enjoy an abundance of leafy greens, vegetables, roots, grains, and fish. I try to make 6-8pm, another 'no-phone zone'. Once the kids are asleep, Pali and I hang out.

How do you help people weave 'food as medicine' into their everyday, in a way that feels realistic and sustainable?

I provide clients with simple, small actions that have a big impact on their health. We customize a diet and lifestyle framework that works with their actual lives and makes it easier to be consistent. To me, health means living with ease so we land on a rhythm that feels supportive not overwhelming.

What pantry/fridge staples do you always keep on hand to make healthy eating easier during a busy week?

Olive oil, lemon, and salt are my true essentials. We season everything we eat with those 3! I also keep oats, capers, nuts & seeds, grains, spices, coconut oil, beans, pasta, heart of palm, and pickles in the pantry. Our fridge is full of herbs, veggies, leaves, fruits, yogurt, filtered water, and Pellegrino.

Pro tip: wash your lettuces as soon as they're home. No one chooses a salad when faced with a sad head of lettuce at meal time!

Finding time to prioritize health and wellness can feel like a luxury, especially for those with little ones around. Are there daily practices, outside of food, that you consider just as important?

A consistent wake-time, no-phone zones, daily hydration, sunlight by 2pm, regular joyful movement, and meaningful relationships are as important as food.

What's your favorite way to incorporate ACTIVIST into your day?

Aside from using the lip balm day to day (I even keep one in the car), my favorite way to incorporate ACTIVIST is to slather on the Mānuka Honey Mask and relax into a hot bath at the end of my day. The smell alone is healing!
